India’s Creator Economy to Drive Over $1 Trillion in Consumer Spending by 2030

India’s creator economy is poised for significant growth, with projections indicating it will influence over $1 trillion in annual consumer spending by 2030, a substantial increase from the current $350–400 billion. This surge is attributed to the expanding base of 2 to 2.5 million active digital creators—individuals with more than 1,000 followers—who are increasingly shaping consumer decisions across various sectors. Despite this growth, only 8–10% of these creators are effectively monetizing their content, highlighting a considerable untapped potential within the ecosystem.

The creator economy’s influence is no longer confined to Gen Z or metropolitan areas; it is now resonating across diverse age groups and reaching audiences in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Short-form videos have emerged as the dominant content format, with genres like comedy, films, daily soaps, and fashion leading in consumption. This shift reflects a broader democratization of content creation and consumption, enabling creators from various backgrounds to engage with and influence a wide spectrum of consumers.

Looking ahead, the direct revenues from India’s creator ecosystem are expected to grow fivefold, from the current $20–25 billion to $100–125 billion by the end of the decade. This growth will be driven by diversified revenue streams, including live commerce, virtual gifting, and subscription models. Brands are anticipated to increase their investments in creator marketing by 1.5 to 3 times in the coming years, signaling a fundamental shift in marketing and commerce strategies influenced by the digital creator ecosystem.
