Promoting Storytelling and Real-life Use Cases in Government App Marketing Content.

In an effort to build stronger public engagement and trust, government agencies across India are increasingly adopting storytelling and real-life user narratives in the marketing of digital public service apps. This content strategy shift reflects a growing recognition that data alone isn’t enough to drive adoption—what resonates most with users are relatable, human-centered stories that showcase how these apps impact everyday lives.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), along with state e-Governance bodies, is now commissioning multimedia campaigns that feature real beneficiaries using apps like DigiLocker, eSanjeevani, BHIM, and UMANG. These stories highlight how a small farmer downloads a soil health card from his mobile, how a young student uses DigiLocker to apply for scholarships, or how a rural health worker schedules telemedicine appointments through eSanjeevani. By weaving such testimonials into videos, infographics, radio spots, and social media reels, the government is building a more emotional, user-first brand narrative around digital governance.

In parallel, storytelling is also being embedded within the apps themselves. Success stories are being featured on landing screens, while new user onboarding flows include short case-based walkthroughs to show tangible outcomes. These narratives are curated to reflect India’s socio-cultural diversity—covering various age groups, regions, literacy levels, and digital familiarity.

Further, storytelling is proving instrumental in dispelling myths, easing apprehension, and boosting digital trust, especially in low-digital-literacy zones. It reinforces the message that these platforms are not just technological products but life-enabling tools that support education, health, livelihoods, and empowerment.

By promoting real-life use cases and authentic user journeys, the government is humanizing its digital services—shifting the conversation from compliance and policy to impact, relatability, and inclusivity. This narrative approach not only deepens citizen connection but also fosters pride, participation, and long-term digital adoption across India’s vast population.
