TRAI Consults on Assignment of Microwave Spectrum for Next-Gen Communication Services.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has initiated a crucial consultation process on the assignment of microwave spectrum bands, aiming to bolster next-generation communication services across the country. This move is seen as a foundational step in preparing India’s telecom infrastructure for the growing demands of 5G and future wireless technologies that require high-capacity, low-latency backhaul connectivity.
Microwave spectrum, typically used for point-to-point communication links, is essential for enabling high-speed data transmission between cell towers and core networks—particularly in areas where laying fiber is impractical or economically unviable.
